Material Synthesis
Benchtop Muffle furnace
Rectangular reaction chamber of dimension 300mm X 300mm X 300mm with heating capacity of up to 1000°C. It is integrated with an air gas supply system consisting of an air source pipe of diameter 1” which connects to a pressure regulator that can handle maximum supply pressure of 500psi, 34 BAR, and output pressure range of 3-200psi, 0.2-14.0BAR and 20-1400kPA. A flow meter measuring 0-50 standard cubic feet per hour (scfh) is attached to the pressure regulator to quantify the air flow rate into the furnace.
Tube furnace
A cylindrical glass chamber with a diameter of 80 mm (3”) and hot zone length of 300 mm (12”) that has a heating capacity of up to 1200°C. It is integrated with a gas supply system consisting of a gas source, mass flow controller (MFC), and back pressure regulator (BPR) to regulate the gas flow and pressure inside the tube. The system allows the synthesis of single or multiple samples consisting of cement-based reactants and fuel in closed conditions. The closed condition ensures the process is adiabatic. The furnace has five viewing windows: three at the top and two on the end seal to observe and capture photos and videos during synthesis. A vacuum pump is attached to run the experiments in a gas-free system. A chiller is also connected to cool the end seal of the tube to ensure safe workability.
Crusher and ball mill
Different crushers and a ball mill are available. The aggregate size can be regulated based on the required size.
Large kiln
A large kiln is under construction. It will be a rotary tube kiln used for the continuous synthesis of cement-based products. This will allow the production of desired products on a large scale. The purpose of this equipment is to scale the production of cement or quick lime by combustion synthesis method as tube and muffle furnaces are batch reactors. It will also allow the EHS analysis by investigating the gases coming out of the system during synthesis.
Plasma gun synthesis system
